Abstract:

The present study was aimed at elucidating the effects of supplementing Dracocephalum and Alcea on blood metabolites concentrations of broilers. Three hundred one-d-old chicks were divided into 5 groups. The control group fed with a basal diet. The groups of 2 to 5 fed with the basal diet containing 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 percent Dracocephalum and Alcea powder with that of equal quantities, respectively. Broilers were examined at d 42 for serum LDL, HDL, cholesterol, urea and glucose concentrations. Data from the experiment were analyzed by ANOVA using SPSS statistical software. Statistical differences among means (P ≤ 0.05) were identified using Duncan’s multiple range tests. Differences in percentage mortality were analyzed by Pearson’s χ2 test. The results revealed that the group 2 had higher (P≤0.05) serum HDL concentrations compared with the other groups. Supplementation with Dracocephalum and Alcea had no significant effect on blood LDL, urea and glucose (P> 0.05). The percentage of mortality was nonsignificant (P> 0.05) among groups, on d 42. In conclusion, the 1 percent of Dracocephalum and Alcea can be recommended in broiler rations.
