Abstract:

There are many methods for water treatment includes physical, chemical and biological process. Introduce a simple, easy, cheap and practical method for water treatment is one of the most important issues in the field of environmental health, water & wastewater engineering, especially production of water for emergency conditions and remote areas. The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility water treatment by kenaf fibers. To evaluate this ability, a pilot plant with various lengths and weight of fibers was used. Synthetic turbid water was prepared by mixing the kaolin and river bed sediments. Then, it was treated by kenaf fibers and analyzed for residual turbidity, true colour, UV254 absorbance and total organic carbon (TOC). The findings showed that the removal efficiency of turbidity, true colour, and UV254 by kenaf fibers cm length was 99.93, 95.09 and 71.43%, respectively. Also, the quantity of produced water was 0.00368 L/gr kenaf. h. it was concluded that kenaf fibers can be used for water treatment as very simple and cheap method without any energy and chemical addition
