Abstract:
Bringing the significant contribution of numerical models in studying fire phenomena into mind, this paper aims to present a historical overview of development of computer models employed for investigation of unwanted fires. To accomplish this, the path of deterministic models evolution from zone models to detailed field models incorporating different computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models, e.g., Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS), Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) is brought. In addition, development of the sub-models for soot formation and radiation heat transfer are also studied due to their inevitable importance in appropriate simulation and prediction of fire behaviors.
