Investigating effective interventions in reducing and controlling obesity in primary school children

Abstract:

Introduction: The prevalence of obesity in children has doubled over the past 10 years, which means we face with an obesity population in future, that In addition to suffering on their complications; they are burdening costs to treat them. The purpose of this overview is to examine effective strategies for reducing and controlling obesity in primary school students. Methods: This review study was conducted in August and September 2017. Our goal was to publish articles from 2000 onwards, included Scientific Information Center (SID), scholar Google, Scopus, and PubMed articles, by two researchers considering language constraints (only English-language articles with full text). A total of 100 articles were obtained, of which 13 were deleted due to lack of full text, 40 were due to lack of subject relevance and 16 were due to non-English language. According to the interventions performed in this field, the articles are divided into 5 categories of physical activity-based interventions, education -based interventions, education -based interventions - physical activity, education -based interventions - nutrition - physical activity, and nutrition-based and physical activity interventions.Results: The results of existing studies showed that all three educational, nutritional and physical activity interventions, with involving parents, school administrators or officials and continuous support for compulsory measures such as the prohibition of long-term food advertising in television programs can be controlled and reduced.Conclusion: To succeed in reducing and controlling obesity in students, especially primary school students, the approaches and interventions should be implemented in three dimensions: home, school, and community.
