Abstract:

Undesirable effects of microorganism’s growth on synthetic textiles, include the generation of stains and discoloration in the fabric, unpleasant odor, a reduction in fabric mechanical strength and an increased likelihood of contamination. This microbial contamination is a great concern, mainly for textiles used in hospitals as medical devices or for health and hygienic care, but also in sports clothing, water purification systems, animal feed and the food industry. Application of silver nanoparticles as antimicrobial agents, for minimizing the growth of microbes on textiles used in hospitals, and elimination of hospital-acquired infections (HAI) caused by bacteria and fungi is reviewed in this poster paper
