Abstract:

Dehydrogenation of isobutane to isobutene has recently received considerable attention because of the increasing demand for Methyl tert-butyle ether (MTBE) and Ethyle tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), which are used as additives for gasoline to increase the octane number and to substitute Lead. Several catalyst systems have been suggested for dehydrogenation reaction, among which Pt/Sn/ catalyst has been shown to be one of the most suitable ones. In this research, the catalytic dehydrogenation of isobutane has been studied over Pt/Sn and Pt/Sn/K catalysts supported on . The catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness technique using an aqueous solution of and . The conversion and selectivity of the catalysts for isobutane dehydrogenation reaction has been tested in a continuous tubular fixed bed flow reactor. The results revealed that addition of potassium to Alumina- supported Pt/Sn enhances the stability of catalyst and improves the selectivity toward isobutene production.
