Abstract:

In this paper, synthesis, characterization and performance of Co/ZrO2 catalysts in partial oxidation of methane was investigated in a fixed bed reactor. The catalysts were produced through co-precipitation in presence of sodium hydroxide as a precipitant. These catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption/desorption (BET) and temperature programmed reduction (TPR) tests. The performance of synthesized catalysts in partial oxidation of methane was evaluated at temperature range of 600- 800 °C, gas hours space velocity of 1200 1/h,CH4 to Air ratio of 2 and atmospheric pressure. The results presented the reaction temperature had a significant influence on the activity and selectivity in partial oxidation of methane reaction. The methane conversion, CO selectivity and H2 yield were enhanced by increasing of temperature. The experiments showed that Co/ZrO2 catalyst a superior ability in syngas production with a H2/CO ratio of near 2 at 800°C, which is suitable as feed of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS).
