Abstract:
A mesoporous ZSM-5 zeolite was hydrothermally synthesized using a coke-deposited spent zeolite catalyst as a raw material. Characterizations by XRD, FT-IR, N2 adsorption/desorption isotherm and NH3-TPD indicated that ZSM-5 have the same properties as the conventional ZSM- 5 catalyst. The results revealed that the utilization of the spent catalyst as raw material in ZSM-5 synthesis is feasible and it can be alleviated environmental issues such as the ZSM-5 zeolite waste disposal and the loss of valuable sources of aluminum silicate. In addition, using the coke-deposited spent catalyst can be improved the creation of mesopores in ZSM-5catalyst.As results indicated the mesopore surface area of ZSM-5 increased from 134.2 to 158.8 m2/g compared to the conventional ZSM-5 catalyst. It suggests that the catalytic lifetime of ZSM-5 zeolites for application in methanol-to–propylene (MTP) reactions would be improved.
