Abstract:
Microalgae can store high values of some chemicals like carotenoids, oil and protein. High biomass production depends on best cell growth of algae. Also light has vital role during photosynthesis. Among two light regimes, flashing light had positive effect on photosynthesis activities and enhanced cell growth of algae compared to continuous light. In this study the effect of external flashing light with intensity of 36.4 µmol m-2 s -1, frequency of 0.1 (HZ) and duty cycle of 50% on microalgae Dunaliella salina was investigated and compared with continuous light. highest dry weight of 0.97g L-1 was obtained in culture grown under flashing which was 277% higher than continuous light regime. Light energy has high efficiency under flashing light which led to increment of biomass in microalgae. Hence this light regime can be used for production of high-value chemicals. So this light regime can be applied for production of high dry biomass which has an important effect on industrial products and improvement of demands.
