Abstract:

Human s health is a very important and complex issue that human beings always notice it throughout the ages. In the last two decades, the use of natural materials has been developed for drug delivery and many other applications. One of the valuable natural material is algae. Alginate is the most valuable component that can be extracted from algae. The persistent structure can be obtained by adding some materials such as chitosan, glycerol, pectin, and thiol with alginate. The use of natural nanofibers drug carriers for wound healing is very useful. Moreover, the addition of natural materials to the nanofibers can increase biocompatibility of drug carriers while accelerating the wound healing efficacy. In the present work, the composite core-shell nanofibers containing dexpanthenol drug were fabricated using the electrospinning technique. The core was containing alginate, polyvinyl alcohol, and dexpanthenol while the shell was consisted of chitosan or polyvinyl alcohol to increase drug release time. The results showed that increasing viscosity of core solution, by increasing 2% PVA concentration, can increase the quality of fabricated nanofibers. Moreover, the presence of chitosan in the shell side of nanofibers can improved drug release rate from fabricated nanofibers.
