Abstract:
In this work, nanoparticles of dysprosium vanadate (DyVO4), were synthesized in the presence of various capping agents, by a simple sonochemical method based on the reaction between dysprosium nitrate hexahydrate and ammonium metavanadate in solvent. The morphology of the DyVO4 nanoparticles by using different capping agents can easily change and create different shapes. The photocatalytic activity of pure DyVO4 nanoparticles was investigated by degradation of dye solution under UV light. The photocatalytic studies on DyVO4 nanoparticles in a photodegradation reaction showed that a maximum decolorization of dye solution was about 62 % after 90 minutes under ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. The results showed that nano-sized DyVO4 has the highest efficiency in removing the organic pollutants from wastewater. The structure, morphology, and optical properties of DyVO4 nanoparticles were characterized by techniques such as electron dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy.
