Abstract:
Under the working conditions of solid oxide fuel cells, Ferritic stainless steels form a chromia scale that has low electrical conductivity and therefore, the efficiency of these energy convertors can decrease. One approach to improve interconnect properties is to apply surface coating. In this study AISI 430 ferri#c stainless steel was coated in a manganese-base pack mixture by pack cementation. The effect of oxide thickness on the electrical conductivity was investigated by applying isothermal oxida#on at 800 °C. This effect was also inves#gated in different temperatures(400 – 800 ºC). The forma#on of Mn3O4 and MnFe2O4nanospinels during oxidation improved electrical conductivity of coated samples. Results showed that the increase of isothermal oxidation time and increase of temperature, increased the oxide thickness and therefore the electricalconductivity deceased.
