Abstract:
Background and Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the quantity and quality of residual bone on bone quality formed after lateral sinus lift.Materials and Methods: Patients requiring lateral lift sinus referring to the implant department of Mashhad Dental School were selected for this study. After 6 months of first surgery, in order to implant placement, the second surgery was done.To evaluate bone density in the CBCT images produced in the region of interest (ROI), the ROI dimensions of the initial CBCT were measured and the HU was calculated for this area.Histologically, histomorphometric dimensions of the remaining bone, inflammatory cell formation, fibrosis tissue size, and type of bone were examined. After data collection, the relationship between the quantity and quality of primary bone with the quality of bone that formed was evaluated.Finding: The mean bone width was 8.54± 1. 1.47 mm, mean ridge to sinus height was 4.21± 1. 1.65 mm and mean bone density before surgery was 521.85 ± 244.35 HU. We also examined the relationship between Total Bone Value, New Bone Value, Old Bone Value, Fibrosis Level, Bone Marrow Level, Vascular Level, and Residual Bone Width, Height, and Density by Linear Regression Analysis and found that none of the 3 variables of Bone was not significantly correlated with Total Bone Value, New Bone Value, Old Bone Value, Fibrosis Level, Bone Marrow Level and Vascular Level. (P> 0.05). We found that only the number of osteoblasts was significantly correlated with the width of the ridge (P = 0.01, β = -0.82) but the number of osteoblasts was not significantly correlated with bone height and density (P> 0.05).Conclusion: None of the residual bone height and width indices and residual preoperative radiographic density had any effect on the amount of vital bone formed after lateral sinus elevation. But bone width was negatively correlated with the number of osteoblasts in the transplanted region at 6 months of follow-up
