Abstract:
Background and Aim: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a type of bloodcancer which normally begins in cells that turn into white blood cells.Genetic variants like polymorphism have been shown to implicate inpathogenicity of AML. Evidence indicates that variation in ANRIL geneat any step of expression can develop the AML. The aim of the presentcase-control study was to investigate the association of ANRIL rs4977574Polymorphism in Iranian AML patients. Methods: According to the identified variants in the ANRIL locus andits tumorigenicity in a variety of cancers, we assessed the rs4977574 ofANRIL gene in the Iranian AML patient in comparison to the controls. Results: The results showed no significant association of alleles andgenotype frequency of ANRIL (rs4977574) polymorphism between AMLpatients and control subjects. Conclusion: Since the ANRIL is juxtaposed to the INK4b-ARF-INK4a genecluster and may have a role in epigenetic gene expression regulation, hence further investigation on the other ANRIL gene polymorphism mustbe done to determine the role of this gene in pathogenicity of AML.
