Abstract:
The present study investigates and analyzes the calculations of two and four-sided lid-driven square cavity using a code based on the Navier-Stokes equations. These equations are solved by Simple, Simpler and Piso algorithms on a staggered grid discretized by finite volume method. The convective terms of transport equations are discretized bypower-law scheme and the mathematical explanation of this method are studied in details.The code is first focused on single-sided lid-driven square cavity. Afterward handled to two and four-sided liddriven cavity flows. This study indicates that symmetric as well as asymmetric results are probable with the change of Reynolds numbers. At lower Reynolds numbers there is a symmetric solution for two and four-sided driven cavity. As the Reynolds numbers increase asymmetry could be expand and there is a asymmetric solution for four-sided driven cavity. The results also showed that the numerical solutions of Simple, Simpler and Piso algorithms for streamlines were not significantly different and all methods will lead to the same results.
