Abstract:

Well logs provide useful and important information for quantitative and qualitative investigation of hydrocarbons, rocks types, rocks properties and underground fluids properties in near well bore zone. In field view, well log plays significant role in well exploration, well drilling, well completion and reservoirs development. Formations petrophysical evaluation gives worthy help in detecting zones with and without hydrocarbons leading in proper planning for future reservoir development (with infill drilling of productive parts of reservoir) and indeed cost conservation. This study focused on characterization of one of Middle East formations was done using Gamma Ray (GR) Log, Density (RHOB) Log, Resistivity Log, Photo-Electric (PEF) Log, Caliper (CALI) Log, Sonic (DT) and Neutron (NPHI) Logs. The results showed the formation has 8 zones with high water saturation and negligible gas content. Density, neutron and sonic logs were used for lithology and porosity investigation. It was identified that formation dominant lithology is dolomite, anhydrite and shale and thus, overall effective porosity is between 0 to 5%.
