Abstract:

Over the past decades, bioactive glasses have been used as a bone graft due to their excellent osteoconductivity and good degradation rate. In this work, the effect of surface area of bioactive glasses on their in-vitro behaviours was studied. For this purpose, mesoporous bioactive glasses 77S with two surface areas of 161 and 94 were prepared using Sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and Triton X-100 as anionic and non-ionic surfactants, respectively. To show the effect of using surfactants, control sample (without using any surfactant) was synthesized too. To study the effect of surface area,The samples were soaked in different buffer solutions with specific pH values. Si release were measured by ICP-OES method. Based on the results of this research work, Si release was found to be affected by the surface area, especially in the first hours of soaking
