Abstract:

The whole cleaning is one of the most challenging problems in the petroleum industry that brings huge costs to the industry every year. This phenomenon not only causes many problems in drilling and completion of wells, but also reduces production and loss of wells. Despite the complexity and importance of this issue, there is still no comprehensive study of Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) of the drilling mud behavior. The CFD behavior of the drilling mud and its impact on the whole cleaning due to the nature of the water based mud and the specific behavior of this kind of drilling fluids against stresses is of great importance in various industries including petroleum industry. Therefore, CFD well simulation was performed. An annular space model with a specified length was selected and a regular mesh was created along it. The simulation was performed by the Euler method and the following results were obtained. As the angle of deviation increases, the cleaning rate of the well becomes worse as the forces acting on the particle in addition to the weight force of the tangential forces on the wall also prevail. Also, increasing the average fluid velocity decreases the concentration.
