Abstract:This article deals with different types of riser concepts considering their application in deep water and harsh environment with its fatal challenges. It has been discussed why Steel Catenary Risers are going to be used widely in deep waters and how they overcome other types comparing advantages of each one. Then As a case study a simple SCR with known characteristics is modeled in OrcaFlex, installed to a floater located in a deep water region with extreme environmental conditions. The behavior of Touch down point is discussed and the importance of vicinity of the Touch down point to be considered during riser design and fatigue analysis is proved as the result of this case study
