Abstract:Nowadays, wireless communication technologies and systems are required and widespread everywhere. Wireless technologies are characterized by communication systems and used as smart technologies on smart devices. Wireless networks gained a lot of attention in recent years. The mostimportant and fundamental networks in short-range communications systems are WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network). Among the wireless networks, Wi-Fi is the main and the most popular one which is used in smart and electrical devices and equipment andphones .This paper explains the Wi-Fi infrastructure based on BSS(Basic Service Set)and ESS(ExtendedService Set) and the Wi-Fi Ad-Hoc Mode based on IBSS (Independent Basic Service Set). Then the details of IEEE 802.11 Network and PHY standards for 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11ac, 802.11ad specifications based on frequency, bandwidth and data rates are presented and reviewed.
