Abstract:
A new analytical method for quantitatively evaluating of dyes decomposition, based on color changing of solution has been presented, in which the captured images are split into different channels. Having obtained the variations of indices for each time lapse, the kinetics of decomposition can be investigated. TiO2 particles doped with carbon and silver were produced by sol-gel method. TiCl4 was used as precursor and hydrolyzed in the presence of silver nitrate (as silver source) and/or sucrose (as carbon source) in room temperature. Then pH of solution was adjusted to 9.0 by adding urea. Having aged for 24h, the mixture was filtered and washed three times. The attained milky-white gel was dried at 80°C for 3h and then calcined at 600°C for 2h. Photocatalytic activity of produced TiO2 particles was evaluated by degradation of Methylene Blue. Particles doped simultaneously with carbon and silver revealed extra photocatalytic activity in comparison with those specimens doped with carbon or silver individually. Mechanisms of photocatalysis increment of TiO2 by carbon and silver were described and the synergic effect of these dopants was stated due to their mechanisms variety
