Abstract:

One of the soil stabilization techniques is the Nailing System which is currently very popular in the geotechnical engineering for its flexibility. The common analytical method for earthquake conditions is the pseudo-static approach. However, this method considers the earthquake s dynamic loading nature in a very approximate manner and alsoindependent of time. In addition to that, the effect of parameters such as shear and pressure wave velocity and also the frequency of the earthquake cannot be analysed in this method. In order to overcome the mentioned shortcomings, the pseudo-dynamic approach is used in this study. Since in the previous investigations, the active soil pressure coefficient formulation was calculated without considering the effect of tensile force of the nails and the fact that the damping of the soil is not noticed in the pseudo-dynamic approach, the main purpose of this paper is to derive the active soil pressure coefficient formulation, considering the tensile force of the nails and the soil damping effect to investigate the factor of safety. Then, in order to validate the given results, a comparison is made between the experimental and analytical results that shows the high accuracy of the proposed method compared to the pseudo-static method
