Abstract:

Analysis of recent earthquakes effects on the sites shows the importance of the soil properties on the ground seismic response. Several methods, with the purpose of evaluating site conditions effects on ground response during earthquakes, are presently available. Most of them are based on the assumption that the primary response in soil deposit is caused by the upward propagation of shear waves from an underlying rock formation. In this study, the correlation of spectral values has been examined in two ways. First, a method based on the site-specific investigation of local soil deposit, by performing the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis and using a well-known Ground Motion Prediction Equation (GMPE). A high shear wave velocity value (herein taken to be 1200 m/s) is applied within the first method which represents the seismic bedrock. The second method is based on site-effects by using GMPE. In this approach, the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis has been performed by applying the mean top 30 m shear wave velocity of the local soil deposit (herein taken to be 529 m/s based on recent experiments) within the GMPE. Finally, according to a comparison between the results of the two analysis methods, it can be stated that the record selection, by the criteria which has been used in the current study, causes a disturbance in the spectral correlation coefficients
