Abstract:

The consequence of translation process is influenced by some different elements such as ideological and political issues which ordain some limitations and bestow directions to the translator. This study seeks to examine the role of ideology in translating of news media and analyze how ideological differences demonstrate themselves in the discourses of the Guardian and Tehran Times dealing with Iran s Top Leader s remarks. Based on critical discourse analysis (CDA) by Van Dijk (2000), this study compared two news websites and found that both websites represented the similar issues differently. To do so, the current study implied two macro-strategies of positive-self presentation and negative- other presentation and indicated that ideology and political matters are substantial factors which can manipulate the information being translated and display through news texts. The result of this study manifested that the shared subjects represented differently in two American and Iranian news websites and also how ideological aspects of translation were emerged and revealed in the same issues. Therefore, the findings of this study make more attention to the significance of being aware of the potentiality of language to alter the fact and realities.
