Abstract:

Background and Objective: Labor pain is one of the most severe pains in the world and use of non-pharmacological and complementary therapies to reduce it has a growing trend nowadays, so we decided to compare the effects of aromatherapy with different herbal extracts on the pain of the active phase of labor in primipara women.Search Method: The following article is considered as a narrative review. 25 valid articles were extracted from advanced databases such as Google scholar, PubMed, SID, and Irandoc by searching keywords like aromatherapy and labor. After reviewing them, 6 articles were excluded and others were directly used. Findings: Jasmine, Clove, Peppermint, Rose, Damask rose, Lavender, Valerian, Citrus aurantium, Boswellia and German chamomile extracts are common in traditional medicine for reducing the pain of the active phase of labor in primipara women. Clove, Lavender and Valerian have the most effective extracts for reducing this pain. Conclusion: Due to the effectiveness, cheapness, ease of use, and non-invasion of this method, we recommend increasing the use of aromatherapy in hospitals for labor.
