Abstract:

Purpose:sleep disorders include difficulty of falling asleep, fractioned sleep, night-time awakening, inability of resuming sleep, problems in waking up, can profoundly impact a person’s health and wellbeing. Reduced sleep has significant health consequences including metabolic, cardiovascular and mental disorders. Lack of sleep has become increasingly common in modern cities. Today, integrative approaches such as aromatherapy are used in addition to medication to enhance quality of sleep. It is said that lavender oil is sedative, is effective on sleep disorders, and also has few toxic or allergic effects. Lavender has sedative effects similar to those of benzodiazepines.Method:PubMed, Web of science were systematically searched and only clinical trial articles were used for this study. Results:lavender oil is commonly used and has been studied. It is determined that lavender oil had a sedative effect, which provides a sleep pattern for elderly patients. Therefore, there is a need to conduct evidence-based studies in order to become common practices in clinics. Conclusion:Different studies have shown the effectiveness of the aroma of lavender on sleep disorders, but because of sample deficiency, larger trial is required to draw definitive conclusions.
