Authors Synthesis and characterization of Fe3O4/polypyrrole core/shell nanocomposite forRemoval of fluoride

Abstract:

Fe3O4 nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by chemical precipitation method and then Fe3O4/polypyrrole (PPy) core/shell nanocomposite, with Fe3O4 nanoparticle as core and PPy as shell, could be facilely synthesized via in situ chemical oxidative polymerization of pyrrole monomers on the surface of Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The polypyrrole /Fe3O4 magnetic nanocomposite has been characterized by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) synthesis method. Then typical magnetization curves have been investigated as a function of applied field at room temperature by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The conductivity and magnetic properties of the polypyrrole containing Fe3O4 nanoparticles showed that the samples have a novel conductivity and a superparamagnetic say behavior. The ability of the polypyrrole /Fe3O4 magnetic nanocomposite as an adsorbent to remove fluoride ions from aqueous solution was demonstrated in a batch sorption mode. Effect of adsorbent dose and also effect of solution pH were investigated. Results reveal that the adsorption is rapid and that the adsorbent has high affinity for fluoride, which depends on solution pH and adsorbent dose.
