Abstract:

A new vinyl macromonomer containing siloxane, 4 (methacryloxy) phenoxy poly methyl hydrosiloxane (4-MPMHS), is synthesized. P (Si-co-St-co-BA) through montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposite emulsion is prepared by in situ intercalative emulsion polymerization of styrene (St), butylacrylate (BA) and 4MPMHS, in the presence of organic modified montmorillonite (OMMT) with different OMMT contents (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2 wt%). The synthetic compounds are characterized by, FTIR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR, XRD, and elemental analysis. A nanocomposite emulsions are characterized by applying FTIR, TEM and laser light scattering. The thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) are applied for studding thermal properties of the copolymer. The effects of OMMT percent on the water absorption ratio and drying speed are examined as well. The properties of 2nanocomposite emulsions containing OMMT are better than silicone-acrylate emulsion. The calculations of monomer conversion, monomer conversion versus time histories and different OMMT contents indicate that by increasing the concentration of silicone and OMMT, the polymerization rate is decreased. Consequently the properties of nanocomposite emulsion containing 1 wt % OMMT are better than other contents. Also in this work the properties of particle size, rapid drying, and improved water resistance in present of OMMT are studied
