خلاصه مقاله:
Objective: In recent genome-wide association studies of schizophrenia (SCZ) disorder, several risk genes including CACNA1C gene and miR-137 have been detected. CACNA1C is suggested to modulate calcium channels that are involved in the development and function of the central nervous system. Strong evidence of significant association between the single nucleotide polymorphisms of CACNA1C and miR -137 and schizophrenia has recently been reported in several genome-wide association studies of schizophrenia in European population. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between these polymorphisms (SNPs) with schizophrenia in Iranian individuals with schizophrenia.Materials and Methods: We performed a case control association analysis between rs4765905 and rs1625579 in CACNA1C and miR -137 with SCZ in an Iranian cohort of 208 schizophrenia patients and 184 control subjects by using PCR-RFLP method. Results: We found no significant association between age and sex of the studied patients and rs4765905 and rs1625579 in CACNA1C and miR -137 genes. Conclusions: Our finding suggested that further research is needed to examine for the genetic etiology of schizophrenia in Iranian population to contribute to better understanding of the pathogenesis and exact treatment of schizophrenia disorder.
