Background: Leishmaniasis is an intracellular parasite that is transmitted to humans by the phlebotomus mosquito bite and contains three types of urban, rural and visceral. In Iran, the rural type of the parasite is one of the major problems of tropical infections in provinces such as Khuzestan, Ilam and some other provinces. Treatment of this disease is mandatory because it is susceptible to a variety of infections. Cryotherapy is used to treat small cutaneous ulcers (less than 3 cm in diameter), which has high efficacy and low complication, making this method preferable to other treatments.Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of cefalexin antibiotic on cutaneous leishmaniasis wounds before cryotherapy in the process of disease recovery.Materials and Methods: In this baseline applied study, 50 patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis who were referred to Dezful University of Medical Sciences in Dezful, whose lesion was infectious, were studied.Results: There was a significant relationship between treatment with cefalexin 500 mg before cryotherapy and the reduction in the number of treatments.Conclusion: In this study has been shown that the use of antibiotics before cryotherapy for infectious lesions caused by zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis has a significant effect on the reduction of time and frequency of treatment of infectious lesions compare with treatment without antibiotics. Therefore, it is advisable to treat cefalexin capsules before cryotherapy until the infection is completely resolved
