Water equals life. Next to air, water is our most precious resource. We cannot live without water.Saving water helps to preserve our environment. It reduces the energy required to process and deliver water, which helps in reducing pollution and in conserving fuel resources. Endangered water resources are not the only water-related environmental issue that needs to be considered. The treatment and discharge of wastewater are associated with a number of environmental problems,which directly relate to clean water resources issues. This paper considers the use of water and thetreatment of wastewater in relation to buildings, how building design can minimse the use of water, and how to reduce the amount of black- , gray- and rainwater discharged to a mains sewer system.
