Abstract:

The use of materials in buildings and construction, especially after the modern era, has always had many environmental challenges. Overuse of fossil and natural resources on the one hand and irreversibility of making garbage on the other hand, in addition to the growing environmental crises, has made it imperative to pay attention to the issue of sustainability, especially in architecture, construction, and the use of materials consistent with sustainability goals. It is very important to see how our ancestors met their needs without this amount of resource consumption and enormous environmental damage until a century ago. Sustainable architecture in the context of sustainable development, not as a solution, but nowadays, as a necessity seeking to interact more with nature in order to reduce the irreparable damage of unstable development. One of these ways is to look at the past and make intelligently use of past experiences. Guilan architecture is one of the successful examples of indigenous architecture which it blends in with the elegance of nature so that it appears to be part of the context and the natural environment. This intertwining with the context and considering its capabilities and limitations has brought Gilan s native architecture and sustainable architecture into alignment. One of the most exquisite examples of architecture in the world is in the use of indigenous materials and the Intelligently and creative use of it, where, it has succeeded for many years in keeping with these characteristics while maintaining its independence from many challenges. From this point of view, studying Guilan s native architecture and applying materials in the context of sustainable architecture is very important.
