Abstract:

In this study, the effect of suction jet angle on aerodynamic performance of NACA 0012 flapped airfoil is numerically studied using CFD technique. For this purpose, the suction control jet is computationally studied using different control parameters including jet location (Ljet), jet velocity ratio (Rjet) and jet angle (θjet). The numerical simulation is based on Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equations combined with SST k-ω turbulence model. Computational results of lift and drag coefficients are compared with numerical and experimental results and good agreement are achieved. Based on the results, increasing the suction angle leads to improve the lift coefficient and reduce the drag coefficient. In this case, the lift coefficient enhanced about 60% and the drag coefficient decreased by 82% compared to the without suction case over NACA 0012 flapped airfoil.
