Abstract:
This paper presents a Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) for ultrasound imaging probe in a 0.18μm CMOS technology. The proposed LNA receives signals from a capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducer and is based on a Trans-Impedance Amplifier (TIA). By using negative feedback, the trade-off between input matching and transconductance (gm) is broken and the required gm of input transistor is decreased which results in low power consumption. Post layout simulation results show an input impedance of 566 Ω, an input referred current noise of 2.5 pA⁄√Hz and total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 0.4 %. Trans-impedance gain of 71.5 dBΩ is provided with -3dB bandwidth of 83 MHz. The proposed LNA consumes only 19 μW from a 1 V power supply.
