چکیده Paper:

Background and Aim : Background: Infections occur as the natural complications in burn situation and also lead to death and disability in patients. On the other hand, using local antimicrobial drugs plays a significant role in the prevention and treatment of burn infection. Of course, those could be effective in the reduction of mortality rate. One of the most important benefits of carbon nanotubes is identified as activation of drug with new impressive features and make their distribution more convenient in the biological environments. Mafenide is a drug applied to the skin that belongs to a class of drugs known as sulfa antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria that may infect an open wound. The intention of this research is the functionalization of mafenide with multi-wall carbon nanotubes and the evaluation of antibacterial efficacy of them.Methods : Methods: The oxidized carbon nanotubes are chlorinated with a reflux system with thionyl chloride. Subsequently, purification and filtration were performed, and then the FT-IR test for confirmation conducted from powder. The drug was conjugated to carbon nanotube with a 3 to 1 ratio with dimethylformamide in the reflux set. It was then washed with solvents such as methanol and ethanol. Microbial tests were performed on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and staphylococcus aureus which were isolated from burn wounds infection. Results : Results: The microbial elimination rate of mafenide with carbon nanotubes at low concentrations is much better than mafenide utilized alone. Conclusion : Conclusions: Based on the consequence, mafenide with multi-walled carbon nanotubes has been impactful in releasing antibiotics at the site of infection. Furthermore, the data demonstrated that the cells have less resistant to treatment. It could be declared that working on the nano-drug delivery of the other widely used drugs in this field is the future perspective of this investigation for researchers.
