Abstract:
Capacitive deionization is one of the desalination methods based on the deviation of ions in an electric field. In this study, four carbon electrodes by attaching different carbon structures including carbon black, activated carbon, graphite and expanded graphite to a graphite foil current collector by means of a conductive binder in order to creating porous structure and improving ion removal performance have been created. Cyclic voltammetry method illustrates that activated carbon is the most appropriate material among the mentioned electrodes for ion removal from the water. Finally, ion removal performance of an activated carbon electrode has been evaluated in a capacitive deionization system.
