Abstract:

In this paper, using the PSO optimization algorithm, a method to solve the problem of optimal cell planning in cellular communication networks is proposed. In this method, the antenna position, height, power, and tilt of each BTS are optimally determined. The cost function contains two different parts of coverage and interference, and hence, we are encountered a two-objective optimization problem. In each of the five different scenarios considered, these two parts of the cost function are weighted with different coefficients. The simulation results indicate that when both coverage and interference have the same weights, the proposed algorithm would have its best performance; such that, the only almost twelve percent of the environment is not covered by the network and the interference is limited to just about one percent, which is both very good amounts. The proposed algorithm has been run for the Azadshahr area of Mashhad, in which the Sadjad University of Technology is located. In order to calculate the coverage and interference, the Urban Signal Propagation Simulator software (USPS) is used.
