Abstract:

Introduction: Social Appearance Anxiety points that Fear of being negatively evaluated for one’s appearance. They are concerned about others negative evaluations and likely to become anxious during an activity when their appearance be may be judged .It lead to being vulnerable to suffering Mental Disorders(1) such as Social Anxiety(2), Eating Disorders, and Emotional problems(3). The statistics reveal that body dissatisfaction growing over the last years affected by the development of the mass media. Regarding, The current study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the social appearance in Iranian students.Method: This is a Cross-Sectional Descriptive study. Participants in this study include students in Tehran universities. Individuals in this study answered the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale, Social Physique Anxiety, Body-Dysmorphic Disorder Symptoms, and Body Shape Questionnaires. Afterward, the data were entered into SPSS and Amos software and analyzed by Cronbach alpha, Expolarty and Confirmatory factor analysis methods.Results: The research participants included 415 students in Tehran universities. Results suggest that the excellent internal consistency as well as demonstrated the first psychometric study(a=0.94). The factor structure of the SAAS was evaluated by using the Expolarty and Confirmatory factor analysis suggested SAAS has a acceptable fit for the one-factor model (CFI=0.959; GFI:0.910). As the convergent validity, Social Appearance Anxiety presents positive correlations with similar scales.Conclusions: The findings provide preliminary support to assessment-related disorders in the future.
