Abstract:

Aluminum-Magnesium alloys are widely used in manufacturing of high speed boats, submarines and other marine structures. In this research the effect of welding parameters such as Voltage, Welding Speed and Wire Feeding rate on corrosion behavior of HAZ and weld metal of AA5083-H321 aluminum-magnesium alloys in 3.5% NaCl solution have been studied. Corrosion behavior of the samples was studied using DC electrochemical methods. The surface and cross section of the samples were observed by SEM. The results showed that increasing the feeding rate increases the corrosion resistance of weld metal. Heat input doesn’t have any effect on corrosion resistance of weld metal, however causes the corrosion resistance of HAZ to increase. In addition preheating doesn’t have any effect on corrosion resistance of weld metal.
