Abstract:

This paper examines the subject of rebirth and recreation of the man through a salvation journey in which The Rime of the Ancient Mariner stands comparison with Jonah and the Whale. A maturity happens for both characters. Mariner and Jonah reach out to a precious knowledge, as in the solitary place they remind God and they begin apologizing and repenting. In The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, when mariner pays his attention to the beauty of all God’s creatures around and when he let his tongue to worship all these beauties, then he could gain god s grace. Mariner and Jonah start the journey with ignorance and finish it with awareness, and it can be the main purpose of Coleridge in writing of this poem; to teach some moral lessons by using great hints of The Bible. The unfortunate consequences of disobeying God s commands are very well-revealed. Mariner’s journey is not an ordinary one; it is a lesson for all misguided wrongdoers who neglect and insist on their wrong actions.
