Abstract:

Heritage structures are a vital part of any society s history as well as an economic resource. For this reason, the reservation and maintenance of these structures have the cultural, economic and social importance. The present research examines the vulnerability of a historical structure called Bazaar (market) of Kashan, located in Kashan (central Iran) dating back to the 17th century. The numerical model of this structure was built in macro method in two cases by considering Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) and fixed support (non-considering SSI) in SOLIDWORKS software. To evaluate structural vulnerability, frequency and nonlinear static analyses were performed with the finite element method using ABAQUS software. According to the results, SSI has a significant effect on the vibration modes, their frequency as well as the capacity curve. The Bazaar structure can withstand gravity loads as well as sustain stability against DBE demand in fixed support condition, but the results with considering SSI show the structural weakness against lateral loads
