Abstract:

In this study, the effects of grout curtain performance, and vertical component of earthquake on the stability of the arch dam abutments are investigated. For this purpose, a 3-D finite element model of Bakhtiari dam, including damfoundation- reservoir interactions, is developed and the abutment stability of wedges are investigated by the Londemethod. The obtained results indicate that uplift pressure can play a key role in abutment stability analysis. Also, considering the vertical component of ground motion is an important parameter affecting the abutments stability of arch dams under earthquakes
