Abstract:
Clown knife fish (Chitala chitala, Hamilton, 1822) from family Notopteridae is atropical ornamental freshwater fish. Genus Chitala originated from southeastern Asiaand includes 8 species. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the skeletal structureof Knife fish, using a non-lethal radiology. In this study, five specimens of healthyKnife fish were prepared from the supply centers of ornamental fish in Tehran andtransported alive to the radiology department of Veterinary Medicine Faculty,University of Tehran. The specimens were anesthetized using PI222 (100 ppm) andX-ray photographed (lateral and dorsoventral projection using mamograph films).Radiographic results showed that, the number of vertebrae: 80, the number of neuralspines: 80, the number of hemal spines: 62, the number of unbranched dorsal fin rays:8, the number of unbranched anal fin rays: 131, the number of anal fin Pterygoid:131, the number of ribs: 12. The swim bladder is two-parted, and cylindrical inanterior part, and conical in posterior. its posterior tip is conical and began from firsthemal spine.
