Abstract:

The genus of Alburnoides has six species in the Iranian basins of the Caspian Sea,Kavir, Namak, Tigris, Kor, and Lake Orumiyeh, and more are expected to bediscovered. As knowledge and information regarding the south Caspian spirlin werelimited, the molecular data are used to study the taxonomic problems of this genus. This study was based on 40 specimens of spirlin to obtain an overview of therelationships between the Alburnoides (Bloch, 1782) populations along the CaspianSea. The minimum-spanning network analysis was determined based onmitochondrial cytochrome b gene. The result of minimum-spanning tree supportedthe existence of two major populations. The western and the Talar river populationsmay be considered as Alburnoides eichwaldii and the eastern populations may bedistinct taxa of Alburnoides sp.1.
