Abstract:

Proteins associated with bacterial cell division normally do not have a counterpart in the eukaryotic cells and they are crucial for the perseverance of the bacteria. The vital protein FtsZ serves as a central player in the cytoskeletal family, forming a cytokinetic ring at the mid-cell, and recruits the machinery of the cell division to arrange the division of the cell. Cells drained of or lacking efficient FtsZ do not separate and develop into long fibers that inevitably lyse. FtsZ has been considered widely. FtsZ along with the proteins that are involved in interacting directly with the activity of FtsZ and its regulation has emerged as a key target for the development of antibacterial agents. In this article, the structural and biochemical characteristics of FtsZ, its functions in the biochemistry and physiology of the cell, the different ways of inhibiting FtsZ, the use of FtsZ as a target for the antibacterial inhibitor have been reviewed. We also came to know the newest advancements of the inhibitors targeting FtsZ and their modes of action. Furthermore, we estimate the trials and future directions of this field.
