Abstract:
the recognition of formation damage in the oilfield has long been recognized , but its integration in to the various upstream operations has remained a challengers. The risks and remedies of formation damage can be traced from the initial drilling operations to the time when the well is plugged and abandened. the misconceptions leading to inappropriate practices and compounded by economic uncertainties continues to cost the industry enormously . by one estimate the total cost to the oil industry in deferred production and in damage treatment is 100$ billion annually , yet the industry currently spends $100 million on understanding and avoiding formation damage the formation damage issues are now being reemphasized with the increased horizontal well placement. we commonly see workovers on vertical , horizontal , and multilateral wells resulting in lost produstion it is also observed that the water injection wells taking less water , having higher injection pressures than expected due to damage.
