In order evaluate pabdeh and gurpi formations in kabir kuh structure in south west iran three geologic sections were selected named zaifel , chshmeh pahn and tange magine outcropping at kabir kuh along with other formations such as gachsaran formation miocene , and garu formation cretaceous . about 80 samples were selected from these sections. for evaluation of hydrocarbon potentiality ,samples were analyzed by the source hound at field area and later in laboratory by rock -eval II. the source hound indicate free hydrocarbons S1 plus hydrocarbon potential S2 in kg.HC/t of rock. the result of these analyses indicate that both pabdeh and gurpi formaitons at this area have good hydrocarbon potential and are significant source rocks. both of these formations can generate considerable amount of hydrocarbons but pabdeh formaiton is a better source rock in kabir kuh area south west of iran.
