Abstract:

produced water is one of the major sources of environmental pollution in oil industries. This type of wastewater which is produced during oil and gas exploration and production, contains different substances such as oil salts , organic acids heavy metals and radionuclides. the main objective of this study was to examine the removal of oil from salty water by membrane bioreactor. the experiments were conducted by using a pilot -scaled air - lift side stream membrane bioreactor ASMBR system . different tests with various values of initial TDS and COD were carried out. the results show that COD removal efficiency increases with increase of hydraulic reterntion time HRT for a constant salt concentration. also COD removal efficiency decreases with increase of TDS for a constant COD.

Keywords:

produced water , oily water high salinity , air -lift side - stream MBR
