Abstract:

In this study, optimization and thermal performance analysis of circular porous fins with three various profiles, namely, rectangular, convex and triangular in fully wet conditions are investigated. A linear model from Sharqawy and Zubair’s model is presented for the relationship between the humidity ratio and temperature. It is assumed that the thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient are a function of porosity and temperature, respectively. The governing equation is solved numerically using the finite difference method applying the Gauss-Seidel algorithm. The results are reported in figures. It is clear that the values of efficiency, effectiveness, and heat transfer rate to fin base for the rectangular profile have maximum values. To maintain optimal conditions, the ratio of thickness to fin lengths should be increased by increasing relative humidity or porosity reduction.
