Abstract:

To meet the global rising energy demand, the oil and gas industry is challenged to maximize oil recovery from the existing hydrocarbon reservoirs. In this study, sand pack experiments are conducted to investigate the effect of different parameters such as rock type, gas flow rate and oil type on oil recovery factor. Dental CT-scan images are taken to show the internal structure of the carbonate core and also EDX anlaysis is performed to admit carbonation of the core. It can be concluded that the oil RF for sand is much higher than carbonate due to the porosity and permeability and shape of the pores. The quadratic model is fitted better for carbonate samples and it gives a higher R-squared value of 0.9402 for test#2. the gas flow rate has very little effect on the sand. Finally, the maximum oil RF for sand is 74.04% and for carbonates, is 47.85%.
